Blue Xanax – Information – Images
There is only one blue Xanax pill and its made by Pfizer. It is a 1 mg elliptical-shaped tablet, scored on the back for splitting them in half. They are only available by prescription and classified as benzodiazepines. Their nonproprietary name is alprazolam. According to the NIH, this medication is hazardous, especially if taken with alcohol or other drugs.
- Each real blue tablet has “Xanax 1.0” embossed on the front and a crease on the back for ease of splitting in half.

Alprazolam can cause the following side effects and others:
- slow breathing
Allergic reactions can cause hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. View more details from the FDA.
All blue Xanax are immediate-release. Immediate release formulation acts quickly and wears off within a relatively short time.
The extended-release 1 mg Xanax pills are not blue; they are light yellow. It delivers sustained therapeutic concentrations for 24 hours. According to Pubmed.gov, “The plasma concentrations gradually decline as the following dose approaches and remain above minimum therapeutic levels.” The anti-panic efficacy of Xanax-XR appears to be comparable to the original formulation.
Alprazolam belongs to the benzodiazepine classification of medication, which works on the central nervous system. It acts on specific receptors in the brain, called GABA-A. By attaching to them and making the nerves in the brain less sensitive to stimulation, it results in a calming effect.
Alprazolam is prescribed primarily for treating the following conditions:
- muscle relaxant
The use and dosage depend on the indicated pathology, the condition of the patient, and the treatment plan.
According to the DEA, benzodiazepines are Schedule IV drugs.
Benzodiazepines can produce emotional or physical dependence even when used as recommended. Physical dependence can develop after only two or more weeks of daily use. However, it is subject to misuse because of its disinhibition, euphoric, and anxiolytic effects. Most of the near-fatal cases are the result of polydrug use.
Avoid abrupt treatment discontinuation. Stop only with medical supervision to minimize the possibility of withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms can include:
- unusual muscle movements
- being more active or talkative
- sudden and severe mood swings
- suicidal thoughts or actions
Some withdrawal symptoms may last an extended time, especially if the patient quits abruptly. Tell your doctor if you have anxiety, depression, problems with memory, trouble sleeping, ringing in the ears, burning or prickly feelings, or a crawling sensation under the skin.
The risk of withdrawal reactions when stopping therapy increases with prolonged use.
In the case of overdose, respiration, blood pressure, and pulse rate require constant monitoring since they could reduce drastically. Intravenous fluids are necessary, and it is essential to maintain an adequate airway. A benzodiazepine receptor antagonist is for the complete or partial reversal of the sedative effects of benzodiazepines.
Symptoms of overdose can include:
- change in consciousness
- lack of coordination
- loss of consciousness
- sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
Originally, Pfizer intentionally color-coded as well as used the shapes of their line of alprazolam-type drugs to help distinguish the various levels of dosages.
This medication is best taken orally with water. The bioavailability of oral alprazolam averages 80 to 100%. It is 80% bound to serum proteins. That means the plasma half-life of alprazolam is about 11.2 hours in healthy adults. It metabolizes in the liver. The metabolites are filtered out by the kidneys and excreted in the urine.
Counterfeit alprazolam is a huge problem. It is perilous to purchase online or on the street. In addition, these medications may contain dangerous ingredients.
- Some “fake” alprazolam contains fentanyl, a cheap, synthetic opioid that is 100 times more potent than morphine.
- All legitimate alprazolam blue tablets are 1 mg. Authentic “bars” are 2 mg.
- The sale and distribution of medicines outside the U.S. do not comply with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
All bluish colored bars with the alphanumeric markings B707 are counterfeits and should never be acquired or consumed.
Mylan pharmaceutical produces a similar product. The image below is a 1 mg round, a light-blue, generic pill made of alprazolam.
