Pliva 434 Round White Pills
Pliva 434 are round, white pills containing trazodone hydrochloride. Each tablet has encoding on one side and an indentation on the other for splitting them in half.
- Each pill contact 100 mg of trazodone
This drug belongs in the classification of SARI (Serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitors). Peak concentrations in the blood are reached within approximately 1 hour if taken on an empty stomach or 2 hours after food.

- major depressive disorder
Mechanism
Regarding its mechanism of action, experts say that trazodone is an antidepressant that works by inhibiting both serotonin transporter and serotonin type-2 receptors. Trazodone inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and blocks the histamine and alpha-1-adrenergic receptors. The full spectrum of the trazodone mechanism of action is not fully understood, explaining its off-label uses.
Interactions
Other medicines can decrease its effect, influence how long it works, increase side effects, or have a more negligible impact when taken with trazodone. Common medications that may interact with trazodone include:
- Anticonvulsants
- Antipsychotics
- Any drug that may cause drowsiness
- Other antidepressants
- Warfarin

Liver
The liver and kidney process trazodone, so special care is necessary for severe hepatic and kidney impairment. In addition, the idiopathic drug-induced liver injury may result from trazodone administration. It usually occurs in long-term administration (typically three months), but reported cases require liver transplantation.
Sleep
This medication also treats insomnia as an off-label use in adults. Off-label means the service is not FDA approved but may be an acceptable use and prescribed by your doctor if necessary. Only the generic Trazadone forms are available, making it cheaper than other sleep-inducing alternatives. However, this drug may cause withdrawal symptoms (see below) on discontinuation.
Addiction
Pliva 434 is non-addictive. Therefore it’s not a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
Withdrawal
When the time comes to a stop taking Pliva 434, a doctor should medically address withdrawal. The dosage is tapered slowly under a doctor’s care. If abruptly stopped, it may cause a Discontinuation Syndrome which manifests with the following symptoms:
- Anxiety
- Agitation
- Sleep disturbances.
This medication may also increase serotonin and cause a severe condition called Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin syndrome, while rare, is potentially life-threatening. The risk of experiencing it is higher if you take other drugs that increase serotonin. Get medical help right away if you develop some of the following symptoms:
- Mental status changes [such as agitation, hallucinations, coma, delirium]
- Fast heart rate
- Dizziness
- Flushing
- Muscle tremor or rigidity
- Unexplained fever
- Unusual agitation/restlessness
- Stomach symptoms (including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea)
Alcohol
Avoid drinking alcohol or taking illegal or recreational drugs while administering trazodone.
